Hypocrisy Now
I came across an article this morning that juxtaposes two issues of concern right now -- the fight for democracy going on in Arabic countries for, among other things, the right to free speech and the worrying state of affairs in North America where we supposedly have this right, and the right to peaceful protest, but where in recent years government bullies have been abrogating this right, right before our eyes, and not many people are saying much about it.
Have we become so desensitised to these incursions, or just so intimidated by all the bruited-about threats to security and terrorists-under-every-bed that it's now okay for big goons to manhandle elder protesters like Ray McGovern, who simply stood quietly and turned his back on Hillary Clinton during a speech where she was, so ironically, condemning repression of free speech against protesters, but in the Middle East?
Is she the Queen now?
See the article at The Huffington Post.

whenever i read the news these days, i generally find that this little voice in my head keeps very hard trying to convince me how it always gets the darkest just before dawn...
in a backhanded way it could be good that these atrocities happen, if they can awaken enough people, things might change. but just how much will it take, that's another question...
(the verification word for this comment is 'rupho' and i quite like it. what could/would/should it mean?)
I'm more hopeful after seeing what's happening around the world this past month. I so hope that the people who are trying for a better life will find it without getting hurt._ We_ should have just half of their courage.
